The Puck Diffuser Screen

Engineering perfection for a flawless brewing environment.

Water Distribution

Problem: Water from the machine's shower screen can hit the coffee bed unevenly, creating high-pressure impact points.

The IMS solution: The diffuser adds a crucial secondary layer of filtration, softening the water flow before it touches the coffee.

The result: A gentle, rain-like saturation that initiates a perfect and even pre-infusion phase.

Puck Integrity

Problem: Pump pressure can disturb the carefully tamped coffee surface, causing cracks and channeling.

The IMS solution: Sitting directly on top of the grounds, the solid stainless steel mesh physically holds the coffee bed in place.

The result: Channeling is drastically reduced, ensuring a highly consistent and fully extracted espresso shot.

IMS Puck Screen Structure

Group Head Protection

Problem: When the pump turns off, a vacuum effect sucks coffee fines and oils back into the machine's shower screen and 3-way valve.

The IMS solution: The puck screen acts as an impenetrable barrier between the coffee and your machine's mechanics.

The result: Your machine stays incredibly clean. Backflushing and maintenance requirements are significantly reduced.

Premium Material

Problem: Cheap diffusers can bend, fray at the edges, or hold onto old coffee residues, imparting bad flavors.

The IMS solution: Manufactured from high-quality stainless steel, tailored to specific espresso machine groups.

The result: A highly durable, easy-to-clean accessory that provides a permanent performance upgrade to your brewing setup.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION

Everything you need to know about using a Puck Diffuser Screen.

It's very simple. After grinding, distributing, and tamping your coffee as you normally would, gently place the puck screen flat on top of the compacted coffee bed inside the portafilter basket. Then, lock the portafilter into the group head and pull your shot.

The puck screen occupies a specific volume (usually about 1.7mm of thickness). You must ensure there is enough headspace in your basket so the screen doesn't press hard against your machine's shower screen when locked in. You may need to slightly decrease your coffee dose (e.g., by 0.5g) to accommodate it. Grind size usually remains the same, though the extraction may feel smoother.

After each shot, simply rinse the screen under hot water. For a deep clean (recommended weekly for heavy users), soak the screen in hot water mixed with a small amount of espresso machine detergent (like Cafiza) for 15-30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

The size of the puck screen must match the internal diameter of your filter basket. The most common size is 58.5mm, designed to perfectly fit standard 58mm commercial baskets (including our IMS Competition and Standard lines). We also offer sizes for 54mm and 51mm machines. Check our Compatibility Tool to be sure.

Because it is made of metal, a cold puck screen can absorb a slight amount of heat from the brewing water. Many professional baristas combat this by resting the screen on top of the espresso machine to keep it warm, or flushing it quickly with hot water from the group head before placing it on the coffee puck.

Yes! In fact, it is highly recommended. Lever machines often have a powerful initial water influx and a strong vacuum effect when the lever is released. The puck screen protects the coffee bed from the aggressive water hit and prevents coffee grounds from being sucked back into the piston chamber.
