In a purely manual, crank-driven system, the coffee puck provides all the resistance. IMS precision filters ensure this resistance is impeccably uniform, allowing you to build and maintain pressure smoothly without the risk of sudden channeling.
The emanuale is designed to accommodate standard 58mm E61-compatible filter baskets. Our B70 series precision filters are the perfect drop-in upgrade, offering you world-class extraction geometries in a highly portable setup.
Yes, it is practically mandatory for optimal results. Because water is poured into the chamber and pushed down by a manual piston, an IMS 58.5mm Puck Screen acts as the dispersion layer. It protects your coffee puck from being disturbed, ensures an even flow, and keeps the internal piston completely clean.
To maximize your extraction and ensure no water bypasses the coffee during manual cranking, we highly recommend using a precision tamper sized between 58.4mm and 58.5mm. This provides a flawless edge-to-edge seal inside our vertical-walled baskets.
IMS baskets offer perfectly circular, laser-cut holes that provide less "artificial" resistance than standard baskets. You may find that you need to grind your coffee slightly finer to achieve the same crank resistance, which ultimately allows you to extract more nuanced flavors from your beans.
