The Aram Espresso Maker is a masterpiece of manual engineering, allowing for unparalleled pressure control. In a manual screw-driven system, the coffee puck is the only source of resistance. IMS precision filters ensure this resistance is perfectly uniform across the entire surface, preventing the water from carving paths (channeling) through the coffee and allowing you to achieve professional-grade extraction clarity.
The Aram uses a specialized portafilter designed for 53mm baskets. Our 53mm precision filter baskets (B65 series and custom 53mm lines) are an ideal fit, providing the laser-cut hole precision needed to handle the manual pressure profiles you create.
When you turn the crank on an Aram, you are manually increasing pressure. Standard baskets often have inconsistent hole spacing which can cause the puck to degrade under high manual pressure. IMS filters offer perfectly calibrated, circular holes that maintain puck integrity even during the slow, high-pressure ramp-ups characteristic of the Aram.
For the most consistent results on your Aram, we recommend using a precision tamper sized between 53.3mm and 53.4mm. This provides the tightest possible fit inside the vertical walls of our 53mm filters, ensuring no water bypasses the coffee grounds.
Absolutely. Because the Aram applies water directly from a pressurized chamber, using a 53mm IMS Puck Diffuser Screen helps to gently disperse that water before it hits the coffee bed. This protects the puck from being disturbed by the initial water contact and keeps your piston head cleaner.
