HiBrew machines offer an excellent, compact entry point into home espresso. However, to truly pull cafe-quality shots, upgrading the stock filter basket to a precision IMS unpressurized basket is the most important step. It allows you to dial in your grind accurately and extract the natural body, sweetness, and crema of your coffee beans without artificial pressure systems.
Most popular HiBrew semi-automatic machines (like the H4C-Barista series) utilize a 51mm group head. We offer precision 51mm baskets (the B60 series) that are perfectly calibrated to fit into your HiBrew portafilter.
Yes! Because IMS filters are unpressurized and use precise laser-cut holes, you must use a coffee grinder capable of grinding fine enough for true espresso. The resistance needed to build extraction pressure will now come entirely from your tamped coffee puck, not from a double-wall mechanism.
To maximize your extraction and prevent channeling, you should replace the plastic tamper with a precision metal tamper sized exactly at 51mm. This ensures a tight seal against the vertical walls of our IMS baskets.
Absolutely. Our DS51 Puck Diffuser Screen is made specifically for 51mm portafilters. It is highly recommended because it helps distribute the water evenly over the coffee bed and prevents coffee grounds from dirtying the machine's group head.
